Keynote featuring Gary Cohn, 11:00 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. EDT

Noted financial and economic expert Gary Cohn will take to the main stage to answer questions from recycling professionals. Cohn will provide insights on the COVID-19 economy and what may lie ahead for U.S. and global market economies. During this session, the ISRI Lifetime Achievement Award will be presented to Shelley Padnos and David Borsuk, respectively.

The Importance of FMCSA DataQs/Registration Resources for the FMCSA Drug & Alcohol Clearinghouse, 12:45 p.m. – 1:05 p.m. EDT

Commodor Hall, ISRI’s senior director of transportation safety, will answer questions regarding the DataQ system, Compliance, Safety, and Accountability (CSA) scores, and the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration’s (FMCSA) Drug & Alcohol Clearinghouse. Attendees will leave with the necessary knowledge and resources to successfully register and complete FMCSA registrations.

Using Financing in Recycling as a Strategy to Maximize Growth, 12:45 p.m. – 1:30 p.m. EDT

Understanding how to use finance options in the right scenarios can play an integral role in optimizing the growth trajectory of one’s business. Paula Summers Murphy,  incoming co-chair for the ISRI Women in Recycling Council, moderates this session, which examines cash purchases versus financing, and when to use different types of financing methods, such as traditional bank loans, capital leases, operating leases, and rentals.

Aluminum Spotlight: A Better Year for Aluminum Markets?, 12:45 p.m. – 1:45 p.m. EDT

Like other metal markets last year, the COVID-19 pandemic had massive implications for the aluminum and aluminum scrap industries. By the end of the session, attendees will recognize major challenges and opportunities, identify where aluminum scrap demand growth will come from, and understand the effects of regulatory changes and trade policy on the U.S. aluminum industry.

Electronics Spotlight: Emerging Issues for Electronics Recycling, 12:45 p.m. – 1:45 p.m. EDT

Dynamic change is a fact of life for electronics recycling and IT asset disposition companies. This session will feature Adina Renee Adler, ISRI’s vice president of advocacy, and-panelists who are leaders in guiding these changes, and will help attendees prepare for the impacts in years to come.

THE BIG REVEAL: Plastics Resin ID Guide, 2:00 p.m. – 2:30 p.m. EDT

ISRI’s Plastic Resin Identification Guide provides recyclers with a set of tools to help identify and process commonly recycled plastic resins. This publication is helpful to those just starting out handling plastics, as well as veterans of the industry. It’s also beneficial to those that don’t typically handle plastics but the material occasionally comes into the facility. ISRI staff and volunteers will walk you through the guide and how to use it.

Afternoon Break/ Desk Stretch/Chair Yoga, 2:30 p.m. – 2:45 p.m. EDT

Disruption at the Ports: Congestion to Container Shortages: A Conversation with FMC Commissioner Rebecca Dye, 2:45 p.m. – 3:30 p.m. EDT

The Federal Maritime Commission (FMC) is the federal governmental agency in charge of regulating ocean borne international transportation of the U.S. In 2020, the FMC launched multiple investigations to address a variety of ocean transportation problems. FMC Commissioner Rebecca Dye will discuss wide-ranging agency investigations, beginning with the disruptions at California, New York and New Jersey ports, and the associated container shortages.

Tire and Rubber Spotlight: Policy and Regulations in Focus, 2:45 p.m. – 3:45 p.m. EDT

Featuring Danielle Waterfield, ISRI’s chief policy officer/assistant general counsel, this session will discuss the potential challenges tire and rubber recyclers may face this year, and how ISRI can help respond to obstacles and generate opportunities.

Stormwater: Federal 2021 MSGP and More, 4:15 p.m. – 5:00 p.m. EDT

Considered one of the most important and far-reaching issues for the recycling industry, stormwater management affects almost every aspect of recycling operations and requires continual attention and activity. Led by David Wagger, ISRI’s chief scientist/director of environmental management, the session will provide attendees with an understanding of the implications of the Federal 2021 Multi-Sector General Permit for Stormwater Discharges Associated with Industrial Activity (MSGP) and other developments in stormwater permitting, and their effects on stormwater management for the recycling industry.
