Buffalo, N.Y.-based WENDT Corp. has commissioned a small nonferrous plant for Campbellville, Ontario-based Moffatt Scrap Iron & Metal Inc. Completed in January, the installation is part of Moffatt’s overall strategy to increase the volume of recycled nonferrous metal.
A full-service metal recycler since 1984, Moffatt follows environmentally friendly recycling practices, operating with a team of 43 employees. The nonferrous plant features a new WENDT tumbleback feeder, trommel, and fines eddy current separator. It incorporates the company’s current eddy systems. Prior to buying the WENDT nonferrous system, Moffatt ran automobile shredder residue (ASR) through a single-eddy current separator, leaving unsized and nonferrous metal uncaptured.
The new system will allow the company to rerun the ASR to capture added nonferrous metals that were not recovered using one-eddy current. “We were selling it to another home that had the equipment we now have to recover this metal,” says Christine Moffatt, Moffatt sales and purchasing representative.
From single pieces of equipment to large recycling processing planets, WENDT specializes in developing solutions that fit customers’ requirements. “WENDT works with different size companies from small-owner operators to large corporate accounts,” says Bill Close, WENDT business development manager. “The effort to develop robust solutions for the small-owner operators is challenging, but our goal is to position them with good decisions for growth. It was a pleasure working with the Moffatt team as we brainstormed together to find the correct solution to meet their needs.”
Designed for future expansion, the new nonferrous plant is a foundation of the company’s recycling strategy. “We are looking to achieve better results with the new WENDT plant, especially recovering additional nonferrous material and the ability to process more materials,” Moffatt adds.
