Like the recycling industry, the insurance business is always in flux. Several providers have come and gone, but since 2000, RecycleGuard has been the only property and casualty (P&C) insurance program sponsored by ISRI. This fall, the program changed carriers from AIG to Berkley Custom Insurance Managers.

“We remain committed to the [recycling] space, and the considerable effort we made to switch carriers is a testament to our commitment to cover as many ISRI members as we can,” says Dan Curran, senior vice president and underwriting officer for Amwins Program Underwriters, which underwrites RecycleGuard. “It’s a team that focuses on just the scrap industry, so there is dedicated expertise to this customer base.”

That dedicated and experienced underwriting team has resolved over 25,000 losses in yards and has completed over 5,000 risk management visits to facilities, Curran says. RecycleGuard’s support of the industry includes the ISRI Annual Convention and Expo. and safety initiatives including regional events, webinars, and the annual ISRI Transportation Safety Awards. By protecting your business with RecycleGuard you also support the safety initiatives and programs ISRI provides to its members.

RecycleGuard features tailored insurance solutions for businesses with primary operations in the recycling of metal, electronics, paper, plastics, glass, rubber, textiles, and automobiles. “We want to write [policies],” Curran states. “It doesn’t cost you anything to get a quote. Have your agent reach out to us.”

Susan Diecidue, underwriting manager for RecycleGuard, says the change to Berkley Custom will benefit ISRI members. “They will see a difference in ease of doing business and flexibility, certainly,” she says. More than 100 ISRI member companies are RecycleGuard customers, and Amwins estimates it has a 50% share of the recycling P&C insurance market.

The minimum premium is $10,000 total for all lines of business, and RecycleGuard is available in all 50 states. Additionally, workers’ compensation insurance is available through the AmeriComp Recycling insurance program.
