The U.S. Department of Labor has issued a final rule announcing adjustments to Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) civil penalty amounts. The final rule is effective Jan. 15, 2024.

On Nov. 2, 2015, the Federal Civil Penalties Inflation Adjustment Act Improvements Act of 2015 was enacted, which required agencies to: (1) adjust the level of civil monetary penalties with an initial “catch-up” adjustment through an interim final rule and (2) make subsequent annual adjustments for inflation, no later than Jan. 15 of each year.
