Redwood Materials debuted its recycling portal, which allows dismantlers, original equipment manufacturer (OEM) dealers and automotive recyclers throughout the U.S. to price and request full-service recycling for end-of-life electric vehicle (EV) battery packs.

“Since we first began collecting and recycling batteries, we’ve been working closely with the auto dismantler community, which is core to creating the safest and most efficient recycling pathways,” said a Redwood Materials spokesperson. “Over the years, as we have worked to identify end-of-life batteries and establish the most efficient packaging and transportation routes, we’ve worked side-by-side to aggregate batteries at their central locations.”

The company believes that by offering instant valuations and clear pathways for battery pack sales, convenience, efficiency and transparency will improve in the automotive recycling landscape. The portal integrates advanced tracking and management systems for end-of-life EV batteries.

“The introduction of our online portal signifies a significant step forward in how end-of-life packs are handled at scale, and with a couple clicks, any automotive dismantler will receive an instant offer for their EV battery pack. Once they accept the sale, Redwood handles transportation.”

As batteries find their way through recycled materials facilities across the nation, the tool is designed to ensure each is accounted for, valued appropriately, and prepared for responsible recycling, addressing concerns of orphaned and stranded batteries. EVs and their batteries are expected to last between 10-20 years. In 2024, it is expected that 250,000 electrified vehicles will reach end-of-life. Redwood’s online portal could emerge as an essential solution, helping equip dismantlers to efficiently navigate this landscape and prepare for their changing fleets.

“By bridging innovation with responsibility, our new portal promises not only to improve the automotive recycling value chain but to also set a new standard in sustainability.”
